Aqara Power Plug H2 EU

Make an ordinary appliance a little smarter. The Aqara Power Plug H2 EU lets you switch a lamp, fan, TV, coffee machine or another device on and off remotely, check how much electricity it uses and create automations that fit into your everyday routine.

It does much more than simply let you control a socket from your phone. It can show you where electricity is being wasted, switch off devices that have been left running and even tell you when the washing machine has finished. It supports loads of up to 16 A or 3680 W and can connect using either Matter over Thread or Zigbee.

When is this smart plug useful?

The Aqara Power Plug H2 EU is a handy way to add smart controls to an appliance you already own, without replacing it.

You could have your coffee machine switch on in the morning, turn off the TV setup at night, put a lamp on a schedule or check whether the fan is still running. Connect the plug to Aqara sensors and you can do even more, such as switching something on when someone enters the room or turning everything off when you leave home.

One important thing to remember: the appliance needs to start working again when power is restored. If your coffee machine or another device requires you to press an electronic start button every time, the smart plug can supply power to it but may not be able to start the actual programme.

Choose between Matter and Zigbee

One of the best things about the Aqara Power Plug H2 EU is that you can choose the connection that works best for your smart home.

Matter over Thread mode lets you add the plug to a compatible Matter smart home system. It is useful when you have devices from different brands and want to control them all from the same place. Your system will need a Matter controller and a Thread border router, although both are often built into the same hub or smart speaker.

Zigbee mode is made for use with a compatible Aqara hub. It gives you more options in Aqara Home, including an adjustable power limit and extra controls for the status light. The plug can also be shared with other smart home platforms through a Matter bridge, as long as your Aqara hub supports this feature.

Whichever mode you choose, the plug can also help extend the Thread or Zigbee network for other nearby devices.

See how much electricity your appliances use

The Aqara Power Plug H2 EU measures power use in real time and keeps daily and monthly records. This makes it easier to see how much electricity a particular appliance is using and whether it is still drawing power while sitting in standby.

You can also use changes in power consumption to trigger automations. For example, when the washing machine’s energy use drops below a set level, the system can recognise that the cycle has finished and send a notification to your phone. The available features and the way the data is shown may vary depending on the connection mode, hub and smart home platform you use.

Automatic switch-off and charging protection

The plug can cut the power automatically after a set amount of time or when the connected device starts using much less electricity.

With charging protection turned on, the Power Plug H2 EU switches off when power use stays below 3 W for 30 minutes. This is useful for phone, tablet and other chargers, and helps avoid wasting electricity once charging is complete. The plug itself uses no more than 0.4 W while in standby.

Up to 16 A for more powerful appliances

The Power Plug H2 EU supports loads of up to 16 A and 3680 W. This means it can be used with more than just lamps and small electronics. It is also suitable for many larger household appliances, provided they stay within the limits of the plug and your home’s electrical wiring.

Check the appliance’s power rating and the manufacturer’s instructions before connecting it. Be especially careful with heaters, motors, compressors and devices with a high start-up current, as they may briefly draw much more power when first switched on.

Made for safe everyday use

The plug automatically cuts the power if it detects an overload or starts to overheat. According to Aqara, the temperature protection is activated when the device reaches 80 °C or above.

There is also a child lock that disables the normal on/off action of the physical button. You can still control the plug through the app, with voice commands or through automations.

Compact enough to leave the next socket free

The Power Plug H2 EU is around 52 mm wide, so it is noticeably slimmer than the previous Aqara smart plug. Its smaller size makes it less likely to block the socket next to it on an extension lead or double wall socket, although this will still depend on the socket layout.

You can dim or switch off the status light so it does not bother you in the bedroom. More detailed light settings are available in Zigbee mode when the plug is connected to an Aqara hub.

How is the Aqara Power Plug H2 EU different from the Aqara Smart Plug EU?

The Aqara Power Plug H2 EU is the newer model and comes with three useful upgrades.

First, the H2 EU supports both Matter over Thread and Zigbee. The older Aqara Smart Plug EU only supports Zigbee 3.0 and needs an Aqara hub.

Second, the maximum load has increased from 10 A and 2300 W to 16 A and 3680 W, so the H2 EU can be used with a wider range of household appliances.

Third, the new model is slimmer. It is around 52 mm wide, compared with 62 mm for the Smart Plug EU. The H2 EU also includes charging protection, an adjustable status light and more ways to create automations based on energy use.

The older Aqara Smart Plug EU may still be enough when you only need basic Zigbee control for devices up to 2300 W. The Aqara Power Plug H2 EU is the better option when you want Matter support, a higher power limit, a more compact design and better control over energy use.

How do you set it up?

Plug the Power Plug H2 EU into a wall socket. The first time you switch it on, it automatically enters Matter pairing mode.

To use Matter, open your chosen smart home app, add a new Matter device and scan the Matter code printed on the plug or included in the instructions. Your system will need a Matter controller with Thread support.

To use Zigbee, open Aqara Home, select the Aqara Power Plug H2 EU, switch it to Zigbee mode and connect it to a compatible Aqara hub. Once everything is set up, give the plug a clear name such as “Floor Lamp” or “Washing Machine” so it is easier to use with voice commands and automations.

What should you know before buying?

The Power Plug H2 EU is designed for dry indoor spaces and has an IP20 rating. Do not use it outdoors, in wet areas of a bathroom or anywhere it could come into contact with water. Do not exceed a load of 16 A or 3680 W, and do not use it in a damaged socket or somewhere with poor ventilation.

The Aqara Power Plug H2 EU (SP-P05D) is a practical choice when you want more than basic remote control. It helps you track energy use, cut down on wasted electricity and bring ordinary household appliances into useful smart home automations.
