Smart Multi-State Sensor Aqara P100

Smart Device Description
Reviews

Smart Multi-State Sensor Aqara P100 – one sensor for doors, windows, valuables, and smart automations

Not everything you want to keep an eye on at home is just “open or closed”. Sometimes you want to know if a window has been opened, a safe has been moved, a drawer has been pulled out, something has landed in the mailbox, or a medicine box has been picked up and tilted. That’s exactly what the Smart Multi-State Sensor Aqara P100 is made for – a compact smart sensor that combines door and window monitoring with object status detection in one small device.

Unlike regular two-piece magnetic sensors, the P100 comes in a single-piece design and uses a 9-axis sensor system. This means it can detect not only opening and closing, but also movement, tilt, vibration, falls, orientation and even a triple tap in certain modes. In everyday use, that makes it much more flexible than a standard door sensor.

The P100 supports both Thread and Zigbee, and it also works with Matter. In Thread mode, it can be used in major smart home systems as an open/close sensor. In Zigbee mode, with an Aqara hub, you get the full set of advanced features – object monitoring, detailed event history, charts, sensitivity settings, and more automation options in the Aqara Home app.

When does it come in handy?

Use it to monitor doors or windows and get a notification when they are opened or closed. This is useful for security, as well as for heating or air conditioning automations. The P100 can detect opening and closing on doors, hinged windows, hopper and composite windows, fridges, safes, and other similar surfaces.

Use it on a drawer, safe, jewellery box, or medicine box when you want to know more than just whether it was “opened”. The sensor can also detect if the object was moved, tilted, or exposed to vibration. These features are available in Object Monitoring mode when using Zigbee with an Aqara hub.

Use it if you want to know when mail or a small parcel arrives in your mailbox. Aqara lists mailbox monitoring as one of the use cases, where the sensor reacts to movement or tilt.

Use it for home care situations too – for example, to notice an unexpected tilt or fall of a crib, bed rail, walker, or wheelchair, so you can react faster.

Use it to build smarter automations that are not limited to “open” or “closed”. You can trigger actions when something is moved, tilted, vibrating, or staying still. That gives you much more freedom than a basic contact sensor.

Main benefits and features

2-in-1: door/window monitoring and object monitoring

The P100 gives you two ways to use one device: Open/Close Monitoring and Object Monitoring. In the first mode, it works like a smart door or window sensor. In the second mode, it keeps track of different object-related events around your home. Only one mode can be active at a time.

Single-piece design – easier to install than regular sensors

With regular door sensors, you usually need to line up two separate parts very precisely. The P100 makes things easier with a single-piece body that simply sticks to the surface. It is easier to install and less likely to cause problems if a door or window shifts slightly over time.

Open/Close mode for doors, windows, fridges, and safes

In Open/Close mode, the sensor detects changes in position based on rotation angle. It works well with hinged doors, hinged windows, awning / hopper windows, composite windows, as well as items like a fridge or safe. Aqara notes that this mode is not designed for sliding doors and windows, roller blinds, 360° rotating doors, or drawers.

Object Monitoring mode for more detailed event detection

In Zigbee mode, when connected to an Aqara hub, the P100 can be switched to Object Monitoring mode. In this mode, it can detect movement, tilt, vibration, falls, orientation, and triple tap events. This makes it useful not only for security, but also for everyday reminders, monitoring, and automations.

Practical uses around the home

Aqara mentions several everyday examples: mailbox monitoring, drawer and safe monitoring, medicine reminders, child or senior care scenarios, pet feeding monitoring, and anti-tamper protection against vibration or signs of glass damage. This is exactly why the P100 is much more versatile than a regular window sensor.

Zigbee + Thread + Matter compatibility

The P100 supports Zigbee and Thread. With Thread, it can connect through Matter to Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Homey, as long as you have a compatible Matter Controller and Thread Border Router. With Zigbee and an Aqara hub, you get access to the full Aqara Home feature set. Aqara also clearly states that Object Monitoring mode is only available in Zigbee mode.

Adjustable sensitivity and reporting intervals

In Zigbee mode, the P100 lets you choose from 10 sensitivity levels and set reporting intervals from 5 seconds to 5 minutes. This helps you tune the sensor to your home, avoid unnecessary alerts, and save battery life.

Event history, charts, and statistics

In Zigbee mode, the Aqara Home app keeps detailed event records and shows them as charts and statistics. So you can see not only what happened, but also notice habits, repeated activity, or unusual changes over time.

AI self-learning correction for long-term accuracy

According to Aqara, the P100 uses an AI self-learning algorithm that helps correct small changes over time and keep the sensor accurate while reducing false alerts. This is especially useful if the sensor is used for a long time or placed on surfaces that may shift slightly.

Long battery life

The P100 runs on a CR2450 3V battery and is designed to use very little power. Aqara highlights its long battery life, so the sensor is suitable for everyday use without frequent maintenance.

Why choose the Aqara P100?

It is much more than a classic door sensor — one device can work as an open/close sensor and also as an object event sensor.

Thanks to its single-piece design, it is easier to install than traditional two-piece magnetic sensors.

It is useful not only for security, but also for everyday convenience: on a fridge, medicine box, mailbox, drawer, pet food container, and many other things.

It is a good choice for anyone building a modern smart home with Matter, Thread, Zigbee, and Aqara automations.

Where is it best used?

On the front door – to get alerts when it opens and to create security automations.

On windows – to see whether a window is open and, for example, turn off the air conditioning or heating. Aqara also gives balcony door opening as an automation example.

On a fridge or safe – to monitor opening events.

On a drawer, safe, or jewellery box – to detect movement, vibration, or access.

On a mailbox – to get a notification when mail or a small parcel arrives.

In care scenarios – on medicine boxes, cribs, walkers, or wheelchairs, where noticing movement, tilt, or a fall can be important.

Good to know before buying

Object Monitoring mode works only over Zigbee and requires an Aqara hub. In Thread mode, you mainly get open/close monitoring and some extra Open/Close mode features, depending on the platform.

Only one mode can be active at a time – either Open/Close Monitoring or Object Monitoring.

Open/Close mode is not suitable for sliding doors and windows, roller blinds, 360° rotating doors, or drawers. For these cases, Aqara recommends using Object Monitoring mode.

The product is designed for indoor use and should be kept away from direct rain.

The product currently does not support pairing through Camera Hub G350, Camera Hub G5 Pro, Camera G2H Pro, or Camera Hub G410. A compatible Aqara Zigbee hub in the Aqara Home app is required for full functionality.

How to install the Aqara P100 Smart Status Sensor

First, choose what you want to monitor – a door/window or an object. This will decide which mode you should use: Open/Close Monitoring or Object Monitoring. Only one of them can be active at the same time.

Stick the sensor to a suitable surface. Thanks to the P100’s single-piece design, you do not need to carefully align two separate parts like you would with classic magnetic sensors.

If you use Aqara Home in Zigbee mode, add the sensor to your Aqara hub. If you use a Thread/Matter setup, you will need a suitable Thread Border Router and Matter Controller.

Calibrate the sensor. Aqara says manual calibration can be done by pressing the top button on the device three times.

In the app, set the sensor up for your use case: choose event types, sensitivity level, reporting interval, and automations. In Zigbee mode, you can choose exactly which events should send you notifications.

If needed, create automations — for example, a notification when a window opens, an alarm when vibration is detected on a safe, or a reminder if a medicine box has not been moved for a certain amount of time. These examples are mentioned directly in Aqara’s materials.

If you are looking for one small sensor that can do more than just tell you whether something is “open or closed”, the Aqara P100 is a very strong choice. It combines door and window monitoring, object movement and tilt detection, vibration and fall detection, and flexible automation options in Aqara, Matter, and Thread setups. In short, you get one compact sensor for better security, everyday convenience, and smarter home control.
